First update in over a year!

Well… I’m a little embarrassed, but I haven’t updated this website since February 2019… I update regularly on social networks but for some reason I’ve let the website lapse a little. Anyway, enough with the excuses…

First up, I hope everyone is keeping safe in this crazy time. I never imagined I’d be updating my site during a pandemic… My wife and I are going into our 10th week in lockdown. We’ve been pretty strict about it as well. Things are improving in The Netherlands though so the lockdown will be eased in the coming weeks.

So, you might be wondering what we’ve been up to since our last update? The real question is, what haven’t we been up to!

Writing and producing a new comic book anthology

The most exciting recent news is that I’m writing and publishing an anthology of short comic book stories. The stories are all a little dark and focus on the blurred lines separated imagination from reality. While I wrote all the stories, I’m proud to say my wife Meriam co-wrote a six page story 🙂 Erica Schultz will edit all the stories, while Cardinal Rae will letter them. We are also lucky enough to have Tula Lotay on cover duties again.

So far the art for two stories is finished, art is underway for another, and there are four more stories with artists already assigned. The artist lineup is incredible. Seriously… I don’t want to announce the entire lineup just yet though. But I can say that Maan House and Roshan Kurichiyanil have already completed the five page story ‘Cogito Ergo Sum,’ while Matthew Dow Smith and Allison Hu have finished ‘Ashes and Dust.’ Here’s a taste of what is come. For some reason the colours look a bit strange when I upload them. Anyway….

I’ll update more once we’re closer to completed the entire anthology.

The Resurrected trade paperback

In May/June 2019, we successfully launched a Kickstarter campaign to print issues 1-5 of The Resurrected in a trade paperback. We were lucky enough to raise over 5000 euros. The book was printed and shipped without any nasty surprises. Thanks again to everyone who supported us.

Here’s the campaign if you haven’t yet checked it out:

And if you missed out, you can buy a print copy here:

And we’re on Comixology:

We were lucky enough to have comics superstar, and my favourite artist, Tula Lotay, draw the trade cover. Just bloody lovely…

I didn’t end up submitting The Resurrected to Diamond distribution, but I have still managed to get it into quite a few shops in the UK, The Netherlands and Australia. I was about to go on a big distribution and convention push but the pandemic temporarily put a stop to those plans…

Conventions

So what else is going on? I attended loads of conventions, including my first ever guest appearance at Amsterdam Comic Con. Had an amazing time, even though I may possibly have had too many cocktails and sang way too much karaoke at the guest and crew drinks on the Saturday night… I also ran a comic book writing seminar there and my wife and I were lucky to have chatted for a while with Christophe Lambert. Super nice dude.

Here’s a photo of all the comic guests and the awesome organisers of creators’ valley (thanks Steve for the photo!):

My other convention highlight was definitely Thought Bubble last November in Harrogate, UK. Not only an amazing line up of fellow creators, but also organised incredibly well. My highlight was definitely getting to meet so many of my friends that I’d made on Twitter. Best con experience ever.

Reviews and Interviews

We’ve been blessed to have had so many websites review The Resurrected. Here’s an updated list:

Reviews & Interviews!

One of my recent highlights was definitely been interviewed a few weeks ago by Iurgi at ALIA Graphic Novels and Comics:

Well thanks everyone for sticking by us. I’ve been doing this now since 2016. Can’t believe it has been four years since this silly idea popped into my peanut brain.

I definitely won’t wait a year until my next update 🙂
